We marked World Humanitarian Day this week on August 19th, but it kicked off a campaign titled “The World Needs More” that will continue to turn words into aid for months to come.
For 10 years now, World Humanitarian Day has honoured the memory of those who face danger and adversity to help others. But it is also an opportunity to celebrate the spirit that inspires humanitarian work around the globe.
Many of us will never know the challenges of basic survival brought on by war, severe weather, catastrophic events, poverty or disease. But you may be compelled to volunteer or contribute with your pocketbook, to help human beings half a world away and ease their anguish.
If you were to complete the statement, “The World Needs More…” what would your word be? Compassion? Selflessness? Peacemakers? Give it some thought, then visit this website http://worldhumanitarianday.org/en/ to sponsor your word and turn it into actionable aid for the most underfunded humanitarian crises around the world today.
Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive. - Dalai Lama
