Safety Matters

NAOSH week reminds us of the importance of leadership when it comes to changing workplace safety culture. Last night, the Nova Scotia business community recognized the strategic andinspirational leadership of Stuart MacLean, the CEO at WCB Nova Scotia. At an awards event held at the World Trade and Convention Centre, Stuart was named one of Atlantic Canada’s Top 50 CEOs. 

Stuart has been part of WCB Nova Scotia for 30 years. As leader and CEO for the past four of those years, Stuart has led the WCB through historic progress in injury prevention and return to work. During Stuart's tenure, the WCB has also made significant progress toward achieving financial sustainability. 

Stuart's leadership is defined by a passion for what is right, and an incredible ability to bring people together, to work toward making Nova Scotia a safer place to work. His passion for change, and determination to have all voices heard, has helped to break down barriers and long-standing belief systems across the province. 

This is best reflected in his work over the past few years with the fishing industry. Stuart's desire to create a safe place for workers, employers andcommunity members to be heard has helped to accomplish greater dialogue, increased trust, and improvements in the way workplace safety is perceived and implemented across the industry.

“This award isn’t just for me, it’s for everyone who works at the WCB,” said Stuart in accepting the award. “It is the work of our teams that never fails to inspire me the most. I’m able to be successful in my role, because they go above and beyond in theirs.”
