Report underscores focus on safety
A recent Transportation Safety Board report is a stark reminder of the importance of our work to change the safety culture in Nova Scotia's fishing industry.

Ward Wickens, 33, a married father of two, was lost on May 3, 2011 off of Cape Sable Island. He was not wearing a PFD. The Captain, the only other person on board, was unable to reach him with on-board lifesaving equipment. Mr. Wickens' body was never recovered.

Since the incident, the company that owns the vessel provides water-activated PFDs for all employees and requires all crew members to wear them.
