Nova Scotia’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal has won the Mainstay Safety Award of Excellence - Organization, the province’s highest workplace safety honour.

Nova Scotia’s highest honours in workplace health and safety were handed out today at the sixth annual Mainstay Awards by the Minister of Labour and Advanced Education Kelly Regan and Workers’ Compensation Board CEO Stuart MacLean.

Two winners take home Mainstay Award for Individual Safety Champion

For years, leaders at Canada Post’s Halifax delivery operation grappled with safety challenges centred on soft tissue injuries and an increasing number of short-term time-loss claims. The operations team in Nova Scotia realized a significant priority shift towards health and safety needed to occur across the board. Together with the WCB specialists and internal support groups, the team developed and implemented initiatives driven by its ‘5 Pillars of Success’ platform.

Based in the Burnside Industrial Park, CarbonCure Technologies is an incredible example of an organization that holds up safety as its highest priority.

Eric LeFort is the Lead OH&S faculty member at the NSCC Marconi Campus and his efforts were recognized as an example of safety excellence.

In seven years, CKF Inc. of Hantsport, went from receiving its second surcharge warning to receiving Nova Scotia's highest safety honour.

An exciting part of the North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week in Nova Scotia this year is the Mainstay Awards. The Mainstay Awards recognize the individuals, organizations, labour groups and employers whose efforts have helped make Nova Scotia a safer place to work
