Workplace safety award programs are an established part of many provinces' overall injury prevention strategy. In Nova Scotia, it's just one of the ways we are trying to reduce the human and economic toll of workplace injury.
The Mainstay Awards combine all previous Workers' Compensation Board and Nova Scotia Labour and Advanced Education awards into one world-class safety awards program. The Mainstay Awards recognize Nova Scotians - the organizations, companies and individuals - as leaders in promoting safety culture. By publicly awarding effective injury prevention, or return-to-work programs celebrated organizations have increased morale, a widespread positive reputation, and ultimately, a competitive market advantage. But most importantly, safer workplaces mean more Nova Scotians returning home at the end of the day.
Why are they called the Mainstay Awards?
In nautical terms, the mainstay braces the main mast on a sailing vessel - just as safety provides critical support in navigating through the business day.
